Google has recently updated its presentation of local or places search within the main web result pages. Search for “los angeles hotels” or “new york dentist” and you will see the new layout of Google local results. The “7 pack” results earlier shown by Google along with places map is now gone. The map has been moved to right hand side which floats down as users scroll down. The local results are now blended with normal search results while having richer info including pictures and physical address of the business. The link to Google Places profile page of the website is given on the right hand side of each website snippet; along with number of reviews in many cases. Links to some third party sites referencing (or having user reviews) the particular website are given below the website listing. For e.g. in case of “los angeles hotels”, links to tripadvisor.com or yelp.com reviews pages a! re mentioned below the listings. This represents the shift towards search results going more local with richer and informative presentation.
